College open for start of term two
20 April 2020
In my first communication as Principal, I am pleased to inform you that Canning College will re-open for teaching at the start of term two following advice from the Western Australian State Government. This notice represents a significant change to the advice communicated on April 2.
While we must continue to take measures to ensure the continued health and safety of students and staff, the strategies implemented in Western Australia, combined with a disciplined community effort, have resulted in an extremely low rate of transmission of COVID-19.
As a result, we will be ready to welcome students back to the classroom on Wednesday, April 29.
Canning College staff and students will be required to continue to follow the social distancing guidelines implemented several weeks ago, while additional cleaning practices will also be undertaken throughout the day.
Returning to Canning at this time will ensure minimal disruption to studies and allow students to benefit from the rich learning experiences and support available in the classroom setting. However, should any student prefer not to return at this time, online activities based on classroom content will be available.
It is assumed that students will attend the College from Wednesday, April 29. Parents and/or agents of students who are not planning to return for the start of term two must contact the College via Canning.Col.Info@education.wa.edu.au to provide details of their particular circumstances.
The new arrangements will be in place for the first three weeks of term and will be reviewed prior to week four, which commences on May 18.
Please be assured that our aim is, and always has been, to provide students with the best possible opportunity to achieve their goals while ensuring their health and wellbeing.
Let me also take this opportunity to thank my predecessor, Mr Alan Genoni, who was a long-serving Canning Principal before recently accepting a position within the Department of Education. Alan led the College with distinction, including during the challenges of recent months. It has been my pleasure to work alongside Alan during the 14 years of his tenure and it is my intention to provide leadership that results in continued success at Canning.
Should you have any questions regarding this communication, please do not hesitate to contact the College.
I thank you for your understanding during these challenging times.
