Canning College has outstanding facilities that are accessible to all students. These facilities include:
Bookshop
The College Bookshop is situated in the Student Services building. It provides students with the text books required for their courses.
Opening Hours
Mon to Thurs: 8:15am - 4:15pm
Friday: 8:15am - 3:45pm
Cafe
Students are able to choose from a wide variety of foods which are freshly prepared daily and offered at reasonable prices.
Brownstone Café is open from 8:15am until 1:30pm Monday to Friday. Closed on school holidays.
Computing Centre
The Computing Centre provides dedicated computer lab space for teaching and learning. The centre has 6 computing laboratories and an online access area for use by students between classes. A wide range of online learning resources have been developed by staff for students to use both on and off campus.
Learning Centre
The Learning Centre is situated inside the College's modern library and is accessible by students between 8am - 6pm Monday to Thursday and 8am - 4pm Friday. Lecturers are available in the Learning Centre at various times to provide on-going assistance for students in the academic subject areas. The informal atmosphere in the Learning Centre puts students at ease, providing the environment they need to take advantage of the free tuition provided by the College's experienced lecturers.
Courses on study skills and exam techniques are also offered throughout the College year. Many students often find that they benefit from working together, solving problems and sharing ideas and techniques.
Literacy Support
The Literacy Support Centre is located in the Library and is available for students to access throughout the day, including lunchtimes. This centre provides a warm, inviting environment in which to receive specialised English language support. Students are able to make either individual or small group appointments with the College’s Literacy Support teacher. They can ask for extra help with their assessment tasks, or they can work through individual literacy programs which cater to their specific needs.
Workshops on Academic English Skills are held in this centre throughout the year. These workshops deliver valuable information on effective writing, reading, speaking and listening strategies. English Club also runs in the Literacy Support Centre twice a week.
Library
The Canning College Library Learning Centre provides users with a quiet, friendly environment where they can study, relax and become lifelong learners. The Library includes areas for quiet independent study, group and tutorial work and a reading lounge for relaxation. The Library contains two computer labs for online learning and a seminar room. Library resources can be accessed from any computer on the College Intranet and remote access is available through the student portal.
The collection includes fiction and non-fiction books, newspapers, periodicals and DVDs. Computers are also available for word processing and have access to various online databases, the Internet, email and other software. A print cell includes photocopying, printing and scanning facilities.
Borrowing Policy
Virtually all material may be borrowed for up to two weeks. The Closed Reserve collection contains items in heavy demand. These are used in the Library during the week and can be borrowed for the weekend.
Canning College requires research assignments to be referenced using either the APA format. Library Teachers are available to provide tuition in research and referencing.
Recreation Centre
There is a wide range of sporting, recreational and social events and activities provided throughout the College year. The Recreation and Events Program aims to enhance academic studies by providing a balance between study and recreation. The program aims to reduce stress through sport, exercise and social activity.
There is a fully equipped gymnasium and recreation centre. The facility provides an indoor basketball court, 4 indoor badminton courts, an indoor volleyball court and a futsal court. Students have the opportunity to use the courts informally for casual games or they can participate in organised competitions. We have in college tournaments in basketball, futsal, Badminton and table tennis throughout the year. From these matches we choose teams to compete against other colleges. If we do not offer the sport you would like we can help you find a local club that will.

Music Room
Students can have access to a piano and a guitar in the music room upon request.
