Changes to start date for some programs

1 February 2021

A Western Australian State Government directive has prevented schools in Perth and surrounding areas from starting the academic year as planned. A five-day lockdown, which will also impact on non-essential activities, has been introduced by the Government due to the detection of one COVID-19 positive case in a hotel quarantine worker.

This person has no known connection to students or staff at Canning College.

While it is disappointing for us all at Canning College and for the students who have enrolled in our pathway-to-university programs, maintaining the health and safety of all students and staff is essential.

The State Government directive has resulted in changes to the start times for some of Canning College’s programs and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. At this stage, there will be no classes held online or on campus from Monday, February 1 to Friday, February 5. We anticipate that teachers will return to the College on Monday, February 8, to begin teaching on campus and online.

Our teachers are unable to teach online classes this week because the State Government directive prevents them from attending the College where rooms have been set-up with the appropriate technology to deliver online. Due to the changing nature of advice regarding COVID-19, Canning College teachers are preparing to deliver online classes from private, off-campus locations.

In the event that the lockdown is extended and students are excluded from campus for a further period, onshore students will be asked to join online classes from Monday, February 8.

This message serves as a general notice and students are asked to regularly check their email and SMS services for specific updates regarding their particular programs.

The health and safety of students and staff is a priority at Canning College and we urge everyone to follow the WA State Government health advice, which includes staying home where possible and the wearing of a mask when in public.

Canning College will continue to follow the WA State Government advice and will communicate any general changes to our activities and operations via email and social media channels. Students will be sent more specific communications via email and SMS text message.

Canning College staff will be available during office hours this week on +618 9278 3500 and

We appreciate that these changes require students and staff to make late adjustments but hope you understand our actions are the result of an ongoing WA State Government health response.
