Goodbye and good luck to all

It’s always easier to celebrate the achievements of our graduating students than it is to say goodbye to them.

At our recent Mid-Year Presentation Evening at The Hub in Bentley, we did both as we farewelled 33 students from 12 countries. The students had achieved success by completing either the WA Universities’ Foundation Program, Certificate IV in University Access Program or the Diploma of Commerce.

There were great speeches, a wonderful musical performance, academic awards and recognition of the hard work students had completed in reaching the end of their Canning College journey.

Master of Ceremony duties were conducted by Bangladeshi student Abrar, who won the Canning College Community Award.

Ian, who is from Malaysia, and Daniella, from the Philippines, delivered a moving valedictory, reflecting on their experiences.

“We have been students at Canning College for the past 10 months, and during this time we have created many invaluable memories,” Ian said. “We thank our teachers who believed in us, showed us kindness and empathy, and pushed us to do our best.”

Daniella talked about the lively college community and her classmates’ experiences.

“We speak for our peers when we say that our experience here at Canning College has been enjoyable, interesting and most importantly eye opening,” she said.

“Considering how everyone comes from different backgrounds, studying here does not just elevate our academic prowess but also our understanding of the different cultures and traditions of other countries.”

During the Principal’s address, Leila Bothams congratulated the graduates, thanked them for their contribution to the college community, and offered best wishes for their exciting journeys ahead.

“I hope that Canning College has been a wonderful chapter in your life and learning,” she said. “Embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead. You deserve a satisfying, happy, and healthy future.”

A light-hearted video featuring student contributions added a joyful and personal touch to the evening.

As students prepare to embark on new academic and personal journeys, the Mid-Year Farewell served as a powerful reminder of how far they’ve come and the bright futures that lie ahead.

The WA Universities’ Foundation Program has provided many thousands of international students with the opportunity to complete their pathway to university in under 12 months.

While most WAUFP students choose to remain in Western Australia to complete their tertiary studies, some choose to join other Australian universities after the completion of the Canning College program.

Canning College runs WAUFP starting in February, April and July.
