International education … for locals, too
Canning College is unique. As a college for senior students, Canning has a well-established history of providing students with pathways to leading universities. Our students come from all over the world and a strong international community culture is built into our campus life. Students are encouraged to attend events and activities that enrich their college experience and strengthen intercultural awareness and understanding.
Canning College’s university-style environment also makes our school distinctive. Students interact respectfully and informally with staff and each other. They do not wear uniforms and there are no bells or sirens to indicate the start of lessons or break periods.
We have no boundaries. Our college is open to local and international students.
Canning College is an Independent Public School. Local/domestic students pay fees and charges that are similar to other WA State Government schools. Indicative costs and charges are published in program handbooks, which can be downloaded from within the relevant program section.

No, Canning College does not have a geographic boundary for student enrolments.
Local/domestic students may apply to enrol into Year 10, Year 11 or Year 12 in 2025 if:
- they are an Australian citizen. That is, if they were born in Australia and at least one parent was a permanent resident when the child was born. They have the same visa sub-class as their parents. These students have an Australian birth certificate; or
- they are a permanent resident; or
- they or their parents are a temporary resident with an enrolment entitlement.
Students may choose to study part-time. Students have many reasons for wanting to study part-time; for example, to boost their ATAR score, to meet the prerequisite for their preferred university course, or to combine studies with work.
A student 20 years or older on 1 March is considered a mature age student and may enrol at Canning College in Year 11 and Year 12. Our college is well suited to mature age students seeking to study the WACE Year 11 and 12 programs.
No, they cannot. Mature age students are eligible to enrol into Canning College’s Year 11 and 12 programs.

Canning College is well suited to home schooled students preparing for university studies. Our ATAR, General and Certificate courses, and our adult learning environment and support services, assist student transition from home-schooling to studies at university.
Australian citizens and permanent residents are able to enrol only if they have completed most of their high school education outside Australia (not more than 2 years of high school in Australia), and meet the relevant entry requirements.
Our program comprises the mandated learning areas of Western Australian Curriculum for Year 10: Mathematics, English/EALD, Science, and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), and Health and Physical Education (HPE). Students study three hours of HPE and 4.5 hours of each of English, HASS, Maths and Science each week. Our EALD course is run over nine hours each week to provide students with an intensive focus on developing their English language proficiency.
The extra time for subjects enables enrichment and extension programs to occur; for example, an accelerated economics course, financial literacy, study of ethics, mathematics extension and enrichment, participation in academic competitions and STEM problem solving.
Our Year 10 program also allows school time to focus on careers and pathway planning, recreational and artistic pursuits, completion of endorsed programs and place-based learning experiences such as excursions to the Art Gallery of WA, WA Museum and our partner universities.
A great way to help you decide is to visit our campus and meet with one of our enrolment team members. Please make an appointment by calling us on 9278 3500.
